BULGARIAN TOWNS AND TRADITIONS

 DAY 1
Arrival in Sofia. Transfer and accommodation. Dinner and Overnight.

DAY 2
Breakfast. Departure to the famous Rila Monastery - the biggest Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, included in UNESCO’s list of valued sights. Return to Sofia. Dinner and show in a typical Folklore restaurant. Overnight.

DAY 3
Breakfast. Departure to Koprivshtitsa, a town–museum preserving over 250 patterns of the Revival Period architecture. Walking city tour. Departure to Plovdiv – the second largest Bulgarian city with a quite attractive ancient quarter and  Bachkovo Monastery - the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria, built in 11th c. with the miraculous icon St. Mary – Mother of God. /Option: stop on the way back to see the famous Assen’s Fortress/. Back to Plovdiv. Accommodation.  Sightseeing tour of the Ancient Part of Plovdiv. Visit to the Amphitheatre, the oldest churches in Plovdiv, Dzhumaya Mosque etc. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 4
Breakfast. Departure to Perperikon - a Thracian sacred place. Sightseeing and free time for taking pictures. Return to Plovdiv. Dinner with wine tasting in the typical Bulgarian restaurant “Hebros”. Overnight.

DAY 5
Breakfast. Departure to Bourgas and Nessebar (one of the oldest towns in Europe and the richest in architectural monuments from the medieval period, included in the list of UNESCO/. Sightseeting tour. Free time. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 6
Breakfast. Departure to Varna - Bulgaria’s Sea capital. On the way stop for a visit to the historic – ethnographic complex of proto–Bulgarian village of “Fanagoria”. Sightseeing. Arrival in Varna. A sightseeing tour of Varna: the Sea Gardens, the Cathedral etc. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 7
Breakfast. Departure to Madara Horseman / a unique example of the Bulgarian mediaeval art, included in UNESCO’s list of cultural monuments with world significance/ and Great Preslav – the second capital of the Bulgarian state from 893 to 972 – a period of greatest political power and cultural uplift. Sightseeing and free time for taking pictures. Departure to Veliko Tarnovo - the former Bulgarian capital, one of the most beautiful Bulgarian towns. Dinner and overnight / visiting the audio-visual show “Sound and Light”- optional/.

DAY 8
Breakfast. Departure to the village of Arbanassi - architectural marvel, included in UNESCO’s world heritage list of cultural sites. Sightseeing tour. Back to Veliko Tarnovo. Sightseeing tour of Veliko Tarnovo and visit to the Tsarevets Hill - the main fortress of the medieval Bulgarian capital; Samovodska charshia /Samovodene Market/ etc.Dinner and overnight.

DAY 9
Breakfast. Departure to Gabrovo – popular as the city of humour and jokes. Visit the open-air ethnographical museum “Etar” – one of a kind in South Eastern Europe. Departure to Kazanlak, a natural paradise hosting the famous Valley of Roses and Thracian Kings. Panoramic tour of the Valley. The valley is well known for its 1500 sepulchral hills, situated in Kazanluk region and for the nineThracian tombs, located nearby. One of them is the famous Kazanlak Thracian Tomb /UNESCO/. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 10
Breakfast. Back to Sofia. Sightseeing tour including the Old Sofia churches: the “Rotunda” church of St. George, the church of  St. Petka Samardjiiska, the church of St. Sofia, the church of  St. Alexander Nevski and its Crypt, hosting the Icon Museum etc. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 11
Breakfast and transfer to Sofia Airport.

DAY 1
Arrival in Sofia. Transfer and accommodation. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 2
Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Sofia, including visit to the “St. Alexander Nevski” Cathedral, Russian church, St George’s Rotunda. Departure to Veliko Tarnovo – a medieval capital of Bulgaria (1187 – 1395). Accommodation. Sightseeing tour in the village of Arbanassi – architectural marvel, included in UNESCO’s world heritage list of cultural values. Dinner in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant with typical cuisine for this region. Overnight.

DAY 3
Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Veliko Tarnovo including the Tsarevets Hill ( the spectacular ancient fortress of the Medieval capital), Samovodska charshia (Samovodene Market) etc. Departure to Triavna - famous Renaissance wood-carving center and the birthplace of iconography in Bulgaria. Accommodation. A walking tour of the Old Town of Triavna. Dinner with presentation of the exciting hospitality traditions from the Renaissance period (such as welcoming the guests with a cup of coffee and local sweets). Overnight.

DAY 4
Breakfast. Departure to Gabrovo – a town known as the city of humour and jokes. Visit the famous open-air ethnographical museum called “Etara” - one of a kind place in South Eastern Europe. Departure to Kazanlak –natural paradise famous with its Valley of Roses and Thracian sacred places. Visit to Shipka Monastery on the way to Kazanlak. In the afternoon visit to the ethnographical complex and tasting the unique rose liqueur and rose jam. Departure to Plovdiv – the second largest Bulgarian city with a quite attractive ancient quarter. Accommodation. Dinner, wine-tasting at Hebros Restaurant in the Old Town of Plovdiv. Overnight.

DAY 5
Breakfast. Walking tour of the Ancient Town of Plovdiv. Departure to Pamporovo - the second largest ski resort in Bulgaria. Visit to Bachkovo Monastery on the way to Pamporovo. Accommodation. Dinner in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant with cheverme (lamb roasted on a skewer) and other local specialties, accompanied with live folklore music and traditional show. Overnight.

DAY 6
Breakfast. A walking tour in Pamporovo ski resort. Departure to the village of Smilian. Tasting of seven types of Bulgarian cheese with a glass of wine. Demonstration of old, yet very interesting methods of butter making while tasting Bulgarian cheese. Lunch. Departure to Bansko – known as one of the largest ski resorts in Bulgaria with an important architectural value. Accommodation. Dinner at a traditional restaurant. Overnight.

DAY 7
Breakfast. Walking tour in Bansko. Departure to the village of Dobarsko. Folklore show presenting “Dobarskite babi”. Departure to Sofia. Accommodation. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 8
Breakfast. Transfer to Sofia Airport.
